ABCIC - Associação Brasileira da Construção Industrializada de Concreto (Brazilian Association of Industrialized Concrete Construction) offered a virtual lesson at the Sobratema Congress on the possibilities, convenience and advantages - not only financial but as regards time, structural efficiency, energy and performance - of the use of industrialized concrete in civil construction.
Construction works that use precast and prefabricated blocks, slabs, columns and other pre-manufactured components made of industrialized concrete are present today in all sectors of national life - from social housing and the sports stadiums that are being built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup to shopping malls, factories, shipyards and an infinite host of other construction works.
In three presentations made by engineers Roberot Bauer, João Vendramini and Ira Doniak, the ABCIC addressed the main precautions that must be taken to achieve the full potential of this model of construction, from the need for a well-thought out and drafted design to then proper choice of suppliers. Engineer Vendramini presented a series of case studies reporting successes in the construction of industrial works with te use of industrialized concrete.
Engineer Bauer charted a step-by-step guide on what to do and what not to do in a construction job. Engineer Ira Doniak underscored the initiatives of the ABCIC on behalf of the segment, such as the creation of the ABCIC ‘Seal of Excellence’, the promotion of courses and training, the fight for tax relief for the sector, and the constant quest for safety, quality and protection of the environment.
