The future highways should have concrete paving, says ABCP speaker in Sobratema Congress
With the new technologies, according to the executive, the concrete highways won quality in the use as well.
All the future highways will be paved in concrete, as this is the most adequate pavement type for intense traffic ways and, above all, those highways which support heavy vehicles traffic. The prognostic was made this Thursday (31) by Ronaldo Vizzoni, infrastructure national manager of Associação Brasileira de Cimento Portland (ABCP), during a speech in Sobratema Congress, held together with M&T Expo 2012, which will be extended until Saturday (6/2), at the Immigrants Expositions Center (SP). “Besides being resistant, they have a longer life and few maintenance”, says the speaker.
With the new technologies, according to the executive, the concrete highways won quality in the use as well – displacement comfort, enabling a better visibility by reflection (because the concrete has a clear color), they do not cause aquaplaning and require a shorter breaking distance as compared to the asphalt. With the new construction technologies available in Brazil, the execution time and the floor quality are similar to the asphaltic pavement. “In terms of cost, the concrete is also competitive, mainly for roads which are submitted to a heavy traffic. It is not by chance that the Army is rebuilding the BR-101 highway between Natal (RN) and Feira de Santana (BA) all in concrete”, says Vizzoni, reminding that the concrete is the most suitable material for buses exclusive passageways, BRT, VLT, airport runways, and port ways.
