In seeking excellence in performance and compliance with governmental regulations that require annual refresher/retraining courses for operators of motorized equipment, Instituto Opus conducted its course for truck crane operators at the work site of the “Metrô Ipanema” construction project in Rio de Janeiro from July 25 to 27. According to the institute’s director, Wilson de Mello Jr., the purpose of the course is to ensure that load lifting operations are performed with absolute safety, thereby avoiding accidents involving injury to people at the job site.
Some ten students participated in the course which was taught by Engineer Carlos Galvão Carvalho de Farias - an instructor who was in charge of certifying off-shore oil rig crane operators for Petrobrás.
Truck crane operators are found at work in every industrial or business activity that involves moving loads and cargoes, industrial assembly, removals in general and civil construction. According to Wilson, the course qualifies operators to operate truck-mounted cranes correctly, safely and efficiently by standardizing equipment operating, inspection and maintenance procedures, placing regard for safety regulations up front as a primary concern. “Our motto at Instituto Opus is PRODUCTIVITY AND SAFETY”, he emphasizes.
And he adds: “It is important for operators to always undergo periodic retraining since the failure to refresh their knowledge can cause these professionals to make mistakes or misjudgments that can lead to the loss of human lives”, concludes Wilson.
