Instituto Opus achieved the highest number of courses given to date in 2012. A total 97 courses were completed throughout the year and qualified and/or certified 1,203 professionals as specialists in the area of construction and mining equipment. These figures represent, respectively, growth of 38.75% compared to the previous year.

“This was the best year in the history of Opus”, states Wilson de Mello Jr., the Institute’s director. Opus is a program of Sobratema – the Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining. “We have surpassed our target which was to train and qualify 1,200 students in 2012”, he explains.

To achieve this result, Instituto Opus expanded the number of courses it offers.  Last year, five new courses were created: Fleet Management module II, Tire Management, Overhead Bridge Crane-Gantry Operator, Army Multiplier-Instructor, Understanding NR-35 - Working from Heights. “In addition, we have promoted a larger number of in-company courses, adapted according to the needs of companies”, adds Mello Jr.

Another important initiative developed by Instituto Opus last year was the creation of the “Comissão de Engenharia e Segurança de Máquinas e Equipamentos (CESME - Committee on Equipment Engineering and Safety). “The objective of the committee is to establish reference of good practices for our segment”, says Mello Jr. The Committee, incidentally, has already submitted a request to the Brazilian Ministry of Employment and Labor to include the profession of ‘Rigger’ in the listing of the "Classificação Brasileira de Ocupações” (CBO - Brazilian Classification of Occupations).
