The growth in the market of equipment for vertical movement and working from heights is a product of a number of factors; especially factors related to demands established under regulatory norms and the need for productivity. On the one hand, the sector has been evolving with regard to legislation which means that manufacturers and users are required to comply with the standards for safety established under the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment’s regulatory norms NR-18 and NR-35. On the other hand, these companies must maintain their competitiveness and, therefore, they are always seeking machines capable of increasing the productivity of their operations.
“The good results achieved by the segment over the last few years reflect the market’s reaction to the performance that such equipment is bringing to construction. Construction projects are on an increasingly streamlined budget and productivity is, therefore, a key factor for better execution of the construction venture and, consequently, for the achievement of greater profitability”, states Paulo Oscar de Auler Neto, vice-president of Sobratema – the Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining. According to data from the Sobratema Study of the Brazilian Market for Construction Equipment, in the last two years sales of aerial work platforms in Brazil, for example, grew 16% (in 2011) and 30% (in 2012).
To ensure we get the best performance out of equipment and, thus, achieve greater productivity, we must know the various models of machines that are available on the domestic market very well. That’s why Sobratema will hold, this coming April 3rd at the Centro Britânico Brasileiro in the city of São Paulo, the Sobratema Workshop 2013 whose core theme is “Vertical Movement and Working from Heights”.
The event will present to the public the variety of solutions that are available in equipment for this segment, their benefits and applications. “Upon buying or renting a machine, the user must know the models that are being offered, their limitations and proper application, so as to ensure the best result possible through their use. If a user is not familiar with the technical specifications or applicability of the equipment, he can compromise the productivity of the entire project”, Auler Neto emphasizes.
Besides detailing the types of equipment and their applications, the Sobratema Workshop 2013 will also address the theme of legislation, with a view of what is presently required and the changes that are expected for the future, and the topic of safety. “Regulatory norms require users to observe a series of guidelines and precautions in working from heights”, says Auler Neto. Lastly, the event will also discuss the subject of worker/operator qualification, demonstrating the importance of training and indicating the various types of courses that are available. “It’s no use having the appropriate equipment for an application if the company doesn’t have a professional who is prepared to operate it correctly” he concludes.
