The management of a fleet made up of hundreds of units of equipment deployed at job sites located all over Brazil and, in certain cases, abroad requires an organizational structure that combines technological tools and qualified professionals to gather, analyze and, mainly, utilize information on behalf of gains in productivity.
One of the most effective tools in this regard are online fleet-monitoring systems which are being adopted more and more by the market since they provide gains in both productivity and safety at the construction site and reduce fleet maintenance costs. “For this reason, this area is now part of the profile of M&T Parts and Services – the 2nd Trade Show and Congress for Technology and Management of Construction and Mining Equipment”, says Hugo Ribas Branco, executive director of trade fairs at Sobratema – organizers and promoters of the event which will take place in June 2014 at the ‘Centro de Exposições Imigrantes’ in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
The online monitoring system combines two important resources: on-board electronics featured in equipment for the transmission of performance data via satellite or cellphone networks, enabling the collection of information on the performance of the engine, transmission and work cycles in real time; and the feature that enables the remote operation of implements, among other functions, through transmission of data via satellite or cellphone networks. These resources allow companies to know how operators work and to collect vital signs for the equipment. In addition, the company in charge of operating the equipment can identify the need to promote programs for qualification and recycling of professionals who show evidence of higher rates of failures in equipment operation or establish rewards for efficiency and productivity in the use of equipment.
Another tool used by contractors and mining companies to increase productivity and reduce costs of equipment maintenance is fleet management software, which enables the complete management of all the operations of a company’s machines - from the time the machine is acquired until it is sold or renovated. “These solutions bring intelligence to the company’s strategic activities and, therefore, are also included in the profile of M&T Parts and Services,” says Hugo Ribas Branco.
The trade show will also have the participation of other sectors including: parts, components and post-sales services, drive systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical systems, tires and undercarriages, lubricants, filters, oil analysis labs, control systems, ground engaging tools and wear parts, machine and power tools for workshops, safety equipment, PPE, light equipment, devices for securing/binding and lifting of loads, products and systems for environmental control, rendering of maintenance services, operation simulators, navigation systems, insurance companies, transportation companies and qualification, training and certification of labor.
In 2011, M&T Parts and Services drew 25,944 visitors and 360 exhibitors; 126 of which were international companies representing 14 countries: Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, the United States, England, Italy, Peru, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan.

Concurrently with the trade show, Sobratema will hold the ‘M&T Parts and Services Congress’ with the objective of providing ample access to and dissemination of information and knowledge in the segments of management, post-sales services, parts and inputs for construction and mining equipment.
The event will gather specialists to discuss and debate the main themes related to the segment, such as qualification of manpower, new technologies, productivity, sustainability and automation - bringing into the spotlight, in addition, trends and what’s new in the markets of Brazil and Latin America.
