Professional qualification is essential to surpass labor challenges in construction

Wilson de Mello Jr., Sobratema’s director of Certification and Human Development, carried out a lecture about riggers and their importance in load lifting processes

The Institute  for Promotion of  Enterprising Work – Work and Life carried out in June, 27 at the installations of Senac –Santo André a technical seminar directed to health and safety of workers in civil construction. Wilson de Mello Jr., Sobratema’s director of Certification and Human Development, carried out a lecture about riggers and their importance in load lifting processes.

In his presentation, Mello Jr. highlighted the importance of construction industry that—according to data supplied by the Ministry of Labor and Employment—is the fourth area of work generation in the country. “On the other hand, it is the third higher generator of work accidents and the first generator of fatal accidents”, adds him.

According to the director, these challenges may be surpassed and the situation may be modified only through an effort to ensure that training processes would be effectively taught by skilled professionals and would have appropriate time charge and content. “Above all, it is necessary a process to check this apprenticeship by an independent organ, what we call third-part certification”, explains him.

In this sense, Sobratema started— through a strategic alliance with Abendi - Brazilian Association of Non-destructive Tests and Inspection—a process to certify these professionals. The process is based on the standard ISO 17024, which establishes requirements and methodology for certification of professionals. In the seminar, Mello also presented the criteria of composition of the Certification Board and the Bureau.

With regional support of Sintesp –Union of Work Safety Technicians in the State of Sao Paulo of ABC, the event had also lectures about NR18, safety for works in height, good management practices in OHS, pre-requirements in rental and use of equipment in works, procedures in rental, installation and use of tower cranes, and OHS and London Olympic City project.
