Executives of Sobratema take part in a cycle of conferences of Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia

Activity is part of the commitment of Mauá and Sobratema to bring companies and academy close to each other

 A series of conferences was carried out during last week by executives from Sobratema in the Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia, at São Caetano do Sul/SP. Invited by the Coordination of the Production Engineering Course of that school, the vice-president of Sobratema, Silvimar Fernandes Reis and the technical consulting engineer, Norwil Veloso, talked about  management and maintenance of construction and mining equipment and about Asset Management, a concept that involves maintenance and is having a rising strategic importance in the organizations. Four conferences were carried out in two days, for approximately 80 students of fourth and fifth years of the graduation course of Production Engineering.

For Reis, the initiative of Mauá is very interesting for both areas. “I consider very important this union between academy and companies. Besides providing academy’s necessities through the access to future professionals, it is also a social issue for the institution since the student gets knowledge of what is expecting him in terms of career after leaving the school walls. The most important purpose of this meeting was this interchange of experiences: practice, day-to-day and the world of companies are connected to the academic concepts and to the world that students live inside the school”, said the vice-president of Sobratema at the end of his talk.

Professor Eduardo Linzmayer, from the course of Production Engineering, pointed out that the purpose of the event is to update the students in terms of Asset Management and of maintenance of mobile equipment, in addition to a better knowledge of Sobratema’s area of actuation. “Our target is to maintain contact with the authors of books that are used here in the school and that have strong knowledge of the several aspects of maintenance, asset management, equipment wear and their consequences in the strategy of the companies. Many times, maintenance is seen as an operational area instead of a strategic one. This was the main point that lead us to invite both experts”, said Linzmayer.

In addition to the importance pointed out by the professor, Veloso added that this interaction is fundamental for Sobratema. “I consider very interesting this approximation with the university. We always defended this thesis. Today we are talking with future engineers through an entity with deep bonds with engineering, such as Sobratema. This is really important. For me, a major step was given here today, considering the difficulties to establish this union between companies and universities”, said Veloso.

Depending on the disposition of Professor Linzmayer, the initiative to put Mauá and Sobratema closer will not stop here. “Our Idea is that this would be the first activity and that we will have its continuity in 2015”, added him. This is the strategy of the school. According to Professor Gilberto Freire, coordinator of the course of Production Engineering of Mauá, every year engineers connected to the area of equipment are invited. “Here, we always have as our target to link the theory with the real universe of companies. In the case of the subject Plant Project, we always bring here professionals of the industry. With Sobratema we put the focus on the maintenance system, which is an important part of the curriculum framework of this half year. The conferences help the students to understand the importance and the dimension of the problems presented by us in the theoretical plan of classes, in the way they will be found in the practice”, ended Freire.
