Divided in 11 chapters, the workbook presents the current context and the traditional model of construction, the differences between mass production and lean production and the concepts about Lean Construction, and the model of Operational Excellence and Production System for construction. It also presents some important issues for the future of this management philosophy in Brazil. “We were concerned in carrying out surveys with some international partners and in pointing what is being used overseas, to establish a “starting line” for this subject in Brazil, a first basic but comprehensive material”, states Barros.
According to the author, this is the first workbook of a series that will be published in national and international markets during the next months. “Our purpose was not to exhaust any subject or even to describe tools or methodologies, but just to present the essential concepts that give us conditions to focus specific details and bring to the market distinct subjects about the universe of Operational Excellence & Lean Construction in the next workbooks”, adds him.
According to Barros, the spreading of this management philosophy is extremely important for the companies because it supports them in turning their processes lean, flexible and agile and in giving predictability to these processes, ensuring better results and higher performance. “I believe that Brazilian construction industry has a promising future. Next years will be extremely important. Contractors are already mobilizing themselves and understanding that this is a time of changes and that the Model of Operational Excellence supported by Lean Construction is the differential to be installed If they want to get significant results in terms of quality, costs and deadlines”, ends him.
