New edition of the technical book Gerenciamento e Manutenção de Equipamentos Móveis will be presented in the Sobratema Workshop 20

The book was updated and improved with subjects related to new technologies of management and control of equipment and maintenance

A new edition of the technical book Gerenciamento e Manutenção de Equipamentos Móveis (Mobile Equipment Management and Maintenance), written by the mechanical engineer Norwil Veloso will be presented in April 8th, during the Sobratema Workshop 2015.

Published by Sobratema – Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining, the book contains information and tools for an efficient management and maintenance of mobile equipment fleets, proposing ideas and concepts and including systems and methodologies.

“The purpose is not to offer a ready-to-be-used “package”, since each company has its own features that will demand adjustments in the concepts and principles of organization and control presented in the book, in a way to fit them to its reality. Our ideas will help the professionals of the area, whose experience and creativity will allow them to use these tools as a support or a starting point to attend their needs”, says Veloso.

The new edition was updated and improved and some points related to new technologies of management and control were included, following the evolution that is occurring in Brazil and in the world: the current vision, turned to asset management and integrated operation as well as concepts such as Severity-based Maintenance (SBM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCC), Proactive Maintenance and techniques such as Equipment Life Cycle (ELC), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Failure Tree Analysis (FTA) and Lean Maintenance.

The book also deals with technologies that are being currently spread, such as automatic monitoring systems, telemetry, surplus management, new technologies of tires and fuel control, in addition to subjects related to labor calculation and training..

Directed to professionals of construction industry and also to fleet operators in general—such as rental companies, transporters and other companies that deal with vehicles and mobile equipment—the book Gerenciamento e Manutenção de Equipamentos Móveis is considered a source of data and guidelines for the establishment of maintenance plans and controls, cost management, installation and improvement of repair shops and others. It is being also adopted by several universities and civil and military engineering schools.

According to Paulo Oscar Auler Neto, vice-president of Sobratema, the contribution of this book is important for the industry of construction and mining equipment because it is the sole publication that gathers updated information about concepts and systems for machine management and maintenance. “The issue of a second edition is aligned with the purpose of the entity, among which is to spread technical and specific knowledge”, points him. Currently, the first edition is completely sold out.

The edition includes 1000 books with 286 pages each and may be found in Sobratema’s Shop (https://www.sobratema.org.br/LojaSobratema).

During the Sobratema Workshop, the participants may also buy at Sobratema’s stand other publications and products offered by the association, such as the books Conversando com a Máquina, written by the mechanical engineer Silvimar Fernandes Reis, and Lean Construction & Operational Excellence, written by Jevandro Barros, CEO of IOPEX Brasil – Institute for Operational Excellence, the magazines M&T and Grandes Construções, the Sobratema Equipment Guide, the Sobratema Study of the Brazilian Market of Equipment for Construction and the survey Main Investments in Brazilian Infrastructure till 2019.

The main theme of the Sobratema Workshop will be Productivity – the main challenges of construction. The program will include presentations of Jevandro Barros about Lean Construction and Operating Excellence; of Hugo Marques da Rosa, president of Método Engenharia, that will present real cases of methods and processes that allowed increase of productivity in workshops; of Marcos Schmidt, Product Manager of Atlas Copco Brasil Construction Division, that will present equipment technologies for use in the work fronts and in industrialization of worksites; and of Rüdiger Leutz, CEO of Porsche Consulting, who will emphasize the importance of professional qualification in construction and its impacts on productivity.
