New edition of the book Excelência Operacional is now available

NEW FEATURES WERE INCORPORATED TO THE BOOK SHOWING HOW TO OBTAIN EXCELLENCE IN SEVERAL FIELDS OF AN ORGANIZATION

The new edition of the technical book Excelência Operacional: o desafio da melhoria contínua (Operational Excellence: the challenge of continuous improvement), written by the engineer Ivan Montenegro comes to the market to show the possibilities of getting excellence in several fields of professional activities and also in different areas of an organization. The work was presented in an event carried out by Sobratema – Brazilian Association of Technology for Construction and Mining during the Construction Summit 2016.

The author carried out a thorough revision of the book to write this second edition. It was based on the changes occurred in the last decade (the first edition was presented ten years ago) and on his professional experience. The scope of the work was enlarged, including concepts such as leadership, project management, health and safety.

During these last years, Montenegro leaded several projects of capital in the country and overseas (including the Arabic Peninsula) managing multi-cultural teams. “I brought this experience with me. It shows that it is possible for anyone to get excellence in his field of work, always trying to get a differentiated level of performance and bringing to people a clear definition of what is excellence and why the organization has to be excellent”, explained him.

In this sense, the author understands that the search for excellence starts in the beginning of a project and is translated in a continuous effort during its development. But it cannot be reached without a strong and determined leadership that understands and assumes excellence as a value and as a commitment. The question of people is highlighted in the perspective of leadership, including management of safety and of motivational factors. Operational Excellence is not turned only to the operational field, but enlarged its scope to the professional life in general.

With six chapters and 230 pages, the book was written in a way that the reader may read each chapter according to its interest in each moment. This way of reading was proposed to allow the professional to study the concepts with more detail and understand what excellence means, transforming this word in an effective benefit to his activity and to the company where he works.

“There is no recipe to get excellence. This depends too much from personal determination, leadership, understanding and search of these standards and also from the transmission of all these concepts to the organization. And each organization is different. Therefore, to disclose these values for the clients and for the society is essential to find the way to transform excellence in a reality”, ends Montenegro.
