Technologies for sanitation landfills will stand out in the BW Expo 2017

TRADE SHOW WILL GATHER NEWS ON SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF WATER, ENERGY AND WASTE MATERIALS

The exponential increase of waste material production in Brazil during the last years is becoming a great challenge for public and company policies, especially after the issue of the National Policy of Solid Waste (act 12.305/2010), that established several actions and targets, including the end of garbage dumps between 2018 and 2021. This means that all waste materials that cannot be reused or recycled have to be sent to sanitary landfills.

Contributing with public and private institutions, the companies that work in this area are developing innovative technologies that will be exposed in the BW Expo 2017 – Trade Show of Services and Technologies for Sustainable Management of Water, Waste Materials and Energy that will take place between June 7 and 9, 2017 at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Systems of draining and waterproofing, solutions for monitoring groundwater table, equipment to deal with solid waste, machines for slurry treatment, solutions for odor control and environment sanitation—which allow to get more efficiency, quality and environmental sustainability—will be presented.

One of the equipment is the solid waste compactor. It has the benefits of better use of the spaces, reduction of landslides, slurry, fire hazard, pests and waste dispersion in the environment due to wind action. “We know that the efficient and correct compaction of solid waste results in a better use of the space, what allows the use of the landfill for  a longer time and a reduction of operating costs, one of the main problems currently faced by the mayors”, says Walter Rauen, CEO from Bomag Marini.

According to Rauen, Brazil has a huge potential for treatment and compaction of waste in sanitary landfills. “Therefore we believe that BW Expo carries out the important role of increasing the debate about technologies turned to environment, in a trade show with quality and mainly with heavy seminars, what ensures the participation of important companies and institutions through their main decision makers”.

In the area of sanitation landfills, there are also innovations turned to the generation of clean energy from the methane gas, which is a product of the decomposition of some types of organic materials. The largest thermal power plant from Brazil powered by renewable fuel—coming from the liberation of this gas—was recently inaugurated in the city of Caieiras, state of São Paulo. Before being used for this purpose, the methane gas was burnt in a flare. The plant is able to generate power enough to supply a city with approximately 300,000 inhabitants.

And this market has much to grow because—according to a study of the Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Pública e Resíduos Especiais (Abrelpe)—sanitary landfills of the country have an accumulated capacity to generate 892 million tons of carbon in 30 years. At the end of this period, 500 MWh—enough to supply about 3.2 million persons—could be generated.

The BW Expo 2017 will also present news for sustainable management of air, water and energy, to attend the demands of public and private areas, as well as of the population. It will be the sole event that deals with the four macro-vectors related to environmental sustainability. In the edition of 2015 more than 100 brands were exposed, bringing more than three thousand visitors.

The event will take place during the Week of Integrated Technologies for Construction, Environment and Equipment, that will also include the Construction Expo 2017 – International Trade Show of Building and Infrastructure Works – Services, Materials and Equipment, the M&T Parts and Services 2017 – Trade Show and Congress of Technology and Management of Equipment for Construction and Mining, and the Summit 2017, the largest event of content for construction and environment industries in the Brazilian Market.
