Technology and Requirements needed to reach the excellence in Maintenance management

Assertiveness and efficiency of planning and control of fleet equipment and vehicle maintenance management make the whole difference in terms of cost optimization and increase in productivity. To reach this target, however, it is necessary to have competence, skill and attitude (CHA).

“Management has a great deal with attitude. In practice, maintenance is not learned in college. Therefore it will be the image of its conductor. The equation for asset management is very complex: it involves processes, results, indicators. Maintenance is not alone. It is related to human resources, training, administration (purchasing, stocks), financial, planning, among other areas of a company”, explains Silvimar Fernandes Reis, consultant in Asset Management of the Grupo Galvão and the Grupo Mobibrasil. He will talk about maintenance management and the importance of its indicators in the Sobratema Workshop 2017, which will be carried out in April 5 at São Paulo.

Planning and control are also essential for the area of asset maintenance. “A well-planned and controlled project brings substantial profits is short time. We cannot continue to work with unpredictability. It leads to an environment of crisis and chaos”, explains him.

The selection of the best variable is fundamental to ensure maximum results, points Reis, speaking about control. “Along its life, an asset may have more than one variable of control, according to the severity of application or a specific moment. People who select the right variable (calendar, km, hour, fuel consumption) will achieve significant profits. Unhappily this is not a normal practice. Maintenance systems that are available do not attend this necessity, do not follow this dynamic”, analyses him. “Appropriate maintenance softwares which include tracks, fluids, productivity must have intelligence to point the best unit of control, in accordance with the severity of operation. It has also to provide performance, maintenance and economic indicators in accordance with the technologies currently available”, suggests him.

Another important factor that contributes for a good asset management is the right selection of these indicators, which will vary in accordance with the purpose and type of project. Its definition must follow some criteria such as importance, applicability, comprehension, measurement, collection, purpose, among others. In relation to the gathering of data, the lecturer from Sobratema Workshop 2017 points out the use of telemetry as an indispensable technologic tool. “Using it we will not analyze reports of the last month. We will do it in real time, putting operators, drivers and other operational collaborators commanding actions to achieve this target”, complements him.

The engineer—who wrote the book Conversando com a Máquina—also highlights the possible Management of Knowledge. “Diagnosis and indicators’ correlation, among others, allow an expert to organize the way to carry out analyses and take decisions. Technology may also help in the establishment of this knowledge”, says him.

In addition to Reis, the program of the Sobratema Workshop 2017 will have lectures carried out by Luiz Gustavo R. de Magalhães Pereira, CEO of Tracbel Group—who will bring cases about equipment maintenance— and by the mechanical engineer and consultant Norwil Veloso—writer of the book Gerenciamento e Manutenção de Equipamentos Móveis—who will carry out a technical presentation about the current practices of maintenance. The opening will be carried out by Sobratema’s president, Afonso Mamede.

The panel of debates—that will be coordinated by Claudio Schmidt, executive director of Sobratema—will have the presence of the speakers and of the experts: Alisson Daniel, director of Escad Rental; David Rodrigues, CEO of Makro Engenharia de Movimento; Fernando Guimarães, executive director of Viação Cometa S/A; Ivan Montenegro, Installation and Operation Director of New Steel; Marcos Iwamoto Ferreira, from Embú S/A and Pedro Buffoni, Supply Manager of Mobibrasil.
